1) Scrub a new skillet with steel wool and mild soapy water to remove the factory anti-rust coating.

2) Dry thoroughly.

3) Coat the entire skillet with olive oil, using a paper towel. 

4) Place in a pre-heated 200 degree oven for 3 hours.

5) Turn off the oven and let it cool. When it is cool enough to touch, wipe the excess oil off with a paper towel.  Just leave a thin coat on the surface.

6) Wait another hour and wipe the oil off completely.

7) Cool thoroughly before use.

To maintain your cast iron pan,  you can cook something greasy or  wipe the interior every couple of months during a heat cycle. You will need to  re-season about every 2 years (see above)

After washing, you can heat the wet skillet on the stove until the water evaporates.  The heat will dry the pan and heat cycle the pores.




Store foods in see through mason jars. Keeps out moths and bugs and gets rid of plastic bags and boxes.
